This mystical vine has been used for thousands of years by the indigenous populations of South America, as a medicine and as a sacrament. Most native Indian cultures of the Amazon basin consider the spirit within this sacred vine to be the Power of the Forest and the Gatekeeper of the portals to the spirit world.

Caapi is known to be used in rituals of the Amazon Indians in conjunction with other plants such as Chacruna and Chaliponga. Though less common, it can also used by itself.
